The Maine Coon is a medium length haired cat. These cats are tough and hardy with a dense rugged coat which is longer on back and tail. The longish neck and back emphasizes body length. The squared-muzzled head appears small relative to the size of the body. Males are considerably larger than females. The independent nature and demeanour of an alert, capable hunter befits their working ancestry.
